The Silk Road

Andrew Bloom’s love affair with silk has earned him the moniker “Silk Baron.” The Baron explains how the love affair began:

"The instant I saw dupioni silk, I fell in love with it. It has a unique sheen that makes each color absolutely glow, and the raw, uneven texture of the fabric offsets the colors perfectly. The range of different colors is stunning—each hue has its own multi-dimensional personality.”

"Although i was broke at the time, I knew immediately that I had to find a way to offer the silk to people in the U.S.; I knew instinctively that other people would fall in love with this exceptional fabric just like I did so I took a chance and put my last few dollars into importing some swatches. The silks spoke for themselves and within weeks I had a client base that remains loyal to this day. Thus, Silk Baron was born and the rest is history. Now, nine years later, we are the leading online provider of dupioni silk, and it's no joke to say my life is infinitely more colorful!"

Today, Silk Baron provides the finest-quality silk in a wide array of exotic hues at an unbelievably low cost. Our dupioni silk begins in China, where each thread is made from the healthiest, highest quality chinese silkworms. The raw silk yarn is then sent to India, where textile production is a tradition dating back thousands of years. There, each thread is handwoven into beautiful bolts of color by master weavers and throwsters. The silk is then shipped exclusively to our warehouse for distribution.

Silk Baron now stocks more than 60,000 yards of silk and has a revolving inventory of over 700 different kinds and colors of fabric.

Dupioni silk is ideal for a range of custom projects. the light hand of the fabric and distinctive shimmer lends itself to wedding gowns and bridesmaids’ dresses. The range of unusual colors and drape of the fabric makes it ideal for interior designers working on custom window treatments and upholstered pieces. Dressmakers, set designers and costumers will find the textile perfect for bridal gowns and bridesmaid dresses, as well as medieval and renaissance costumes.
